Rose Murakami, delivers a speech by her sister, Keiko Mary Murakami Kitagawa, who was ill that day and could not attend. The subject: 1942 Internment of Japanese Canadians, specifically, what happened on Salt Spring Island, BC. This event happened at the Salt Spring Library on February 7th 2017; the opening day of the photo exhibit titled: The Uprooting 1942: The War Measures Act and Japanese-Canadians.

The exhibit was organized by the Japanese Garden Society of Salt Spring Island to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the removal of all people of Japanese Ancestry from BC Coast. The event was co-sponsored by the SSI Library.
